Our History

In 1911, a non-denominational church, Union Church, was formed in College View at 46th & Prescott.  In 1954, Union affiliated itself with the Presbyterian Church and changed its name to College View Presbyterian Church.  In 1973, College View Presbyterian, to reflect it's expanded ministry, changed its name to Southeast Presbyterian Church

In 1975, a new church development, named Southern Hills Presbyterian, was established at 40th & Old Cheney.  Both Southeast and Southern Hills had outgrown their facilities by the early 1980's and decided to join together to form one church family, Southern Heights Presbyterian, in 1985.  To begin new construction for the joint congregation, the existing facility at 40th & Old Cheney was moved to 11th & South Streets, where it still serves as the chapel for the Ambassador Nursing Home.

Today

Together, in 1990,  we built our current church complex at 5750 So. 40th (40th & Old Cheney), featuring a meditative sanctuary in the round with a modern sound system and comfortable seating, an area dedicated to education, and a fellowship hall.  This was phase one of our long-term building plan.

Our Building Plans

Church Family Input Welcome

With growth and new needs, we have now embarked upon phase two, facility expansion.  The SHPC Facilities Task Force has been working with our original architects, Sinclair Hille, for the past year. Based on their input, Sinclair Hille has developed preliminary design concepts, presented to the congregation for feedback on March 30, 2008.  Click here to view the presentation.

A Building Committee has been established to move forward with the design development. Dick Campbell serves as chair.

Southern Heights encourages its members to be actively involved in the planning process for our future expansion.  The Building Committee welcomes all input.  Please click here to leave your comments and suggestions.
